Yes, I got it.

Yes, I received the Catholic Key's hideous 50thAnniversary magazine this weekend. On Friday, to be precise.

And yes, I'll have something to say about it. But I have to let it digest a little first.

In the meantime, do go back and read my initial thoughts about "celebrating" the 50 years of the diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph.

Shudder.

AdZ really thinks the diocese only consists of the metro area. It must make him cringe to have to include St. Joe.
So I really wasn't surprised by the anniversary edition of the Key. The Key staff are still the "old guard", ignoring the rural, outlying parishes. Even the article on Bishop Hogan failed to mention that his home parish from which he traveled the state and from where he decided to settle after leaving St. Louis was in Chillicothe! Only Baccala's article on Immigrants mentioned that fact in a quote by Fr. Coleman, the diocesan archivist.
The article naming the closed parishes only listed KC and St. Joe parishes. What about all the other towns in the diocese that lost parishes? Don't they rate a mention? Leopolis, Braymer, Utica, Chula, Chillicothe's second parish, St. Joseph's (yes, Chillicothe actually had 2 Catholic churches). And those are just in a 10 mile radius of Chillicothe!
