Update to Guardian Angels and Good Counsel
A quick jaunt back across the line to Kansas City, Missouri: I had a chance to take some photos of Guardian Angels' interior (and I've had facade shots of both churches I've been meaning to post for some time). I've updated my December 10, 2005 post with those photos.

Again I must apologize for the quality of the interior photos. The sanctuary lights were off, and I didn't feel it prudent to walk up and say "Hi, I'm a crank traditionalist blogger, and I want to show the world just how badly you've messed up your church! Would you mind turning the sanctuary lights on so my photos of your ugly, defaced sanctuary look better on the internet?" I just took my photographs, reverenced the Blessed Sacrament, and got myself out of there.
Anyways, if you've got better quality pictures of Guardian Angels, please forward them to me and I'll switch them out.

I'm not so sure you were reverencing the Blessed Sacrament.
I went to Guardian Angels about a year ago one Saturday afternoon because, like you say in the original, it is the kind of church you want to see inside. After getting over my shock at the painted plywood that had replaced the (I could only imagine) spectacular High Altar, I decided to stay for Mass. When, at the Consecration, the presider lifted up what looked to me like a large hunk of rye bread, I decided to high tail it out of there before Old Scratch got his pitchfork in me.
And yes, I did genuflect on the way out, on the off chance Jesus was somewhere in that worship space.
I hear you, and that crossed my mind as well.
But never having endured a Mass there, much less having witnessed the consecration (or attempt) of whatever matter was in the tabernacle, I was in no position to judge just what or Who might be there. So naturally, one presumes He's there.
I live within walking distance Guardian Angeles and attend it on a semi regular basis. The liturgy is pretty wretched and I generally go and sit on the steps outside during the homily to avoid heresy.
Frankly, I'm suprised the Guardian Angels put up with that place at all.
If you're within walking distance of Guardian Angels, you're within walking distance of Good Counsel. Simple solution (unless you've got some plan to be an orthodox mole) to your problem is to walk to Good COunsel instead.
Hey, thanks for the tip... I suppose I could also go to the Tridentine Mass in town, which isn't all that far from me either.
