For us, we loved the parish, but intend to put our children in Catholic school. Since Good Counsel's only "school" is the group of homeschoolers (I mean absolutely no disrespect here, I count many of them as friends), we changed to St. Andrews. Not perfect, but Fr. Mancuso is a wonderful pastor who, as cranky said, pulls no punches. I don't like altar girls either, but it is not disobedience to have them, and of my options, this is best for our family. We do miss the lovely Good Counsel Mass though!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15621027.post-1160412331009862092006-10-09T11:45:00.000-05:002006-10-09T11:45:00.000-05:00I heard that Chicago's House of Hanson is in town ...I heard that Chicago's House of Hanson is in town this week to take measurements for the new Monsignors; anyone else in the clerical state (or in formation for it) and who's ready for a decent cassock maight catch them while they're here. You probably ought to call the chancery for details; I'd guess that Msgr Murphy's or Msgr. Offut's secretary could say when and where.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15621027.post-1160411653040081402006-10-09T11:34:00.000-05:002006-10-09T11:34:00.000-05:00Must avoid parishes with altar girls; too confusun...Must avoid parishes with altar girls; too confusung for my young children. The Church may now officially tolerate that abuse; doesn't mean I must. I'll stick, like Curmudgeon, to the old Mass at St. Philippine/Blessed Sacrament or Old St. Pat's, and when necessary or appropriate for family reasons, to a N.O. parish where there aren't things going on that I have to explain away.

--GuidoAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15621027.post-1160403888916888352006-10-09T09:24:00.000-05:002006-10-09T09:24:00.000-05:00Just a note of clarification on dress of these new...Just a note of clarification on dress of these new msgrs. The black biretta with violet pom is now only reserved for certain canons. The ceremonial of bishops prescribes the black biretta with black pom. Also, hopefully we will see the distinction of the msgrs. by the piping of there house cassocks. (black w/ violet for chaplains, and black w/ amaranth red for p of honor and protonatary ap's and a completely violet choir cassock for solemn occasions) This is so exciting for our diocese and what a wonderul honor for Msgr. Blacet and all his wonderful work! Maybe we can get his to where the violet caqssock as well now.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15621027.post-1160207786900924502006-10-07T02:56:00.000-05:002006-10-07T02:56:00.000-05:00We got 'em back a few years ago when Abp. His homilies are always replete with all the kinds of subjects conservative Catholic writers/thinkers lament as no longer extant in most homilies. He beats around no bushes. He just calmly lays it on the line without compromise. Yet, he's nice about it.

Come visit. You might not want to leave.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
